Band Regrouping

The Hog Heaven Big Band is regrouping, and invites musicians to come give Big Band Swing music a try. We play music from the Big Band Era of Count Basie and Glenn Miller, up to the modern swing revival, featuring the music of groups like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the Cherry Poppin Daddies. 

To check us out, just come to one of our upcoming rehearsals, April 11th, 7:30 - 9:30 pm and April 18th, 7:30 - 9:30 pm, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1036 W. A Street, in Moscow. 

The emphasis is on having fun, enjoying the camaraderie of making music with friends. Soloing is optional. If you’re not sure, come and listen, and if you like it, bring your instrument next time.

Upcoming Gigs and Rehearsals

Hog Heaven Big Band will be holding rehearsals on April 11th and 18th at Emmanuel Lutheran on A Street in Moscow from 7:30 to 9 pm. Anyone interested in attending the rehearsals are welcome. The band is currently looking for new members so please join us if you are interested. Just come and listen or bring your instrument (sax, trumpet, trombone, bass, drums, or vocal chords) and join in. A piano and microphone will be provided.

The band is scheduled to play a benefit dance and concert at the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute's 30th Anniversary Bash on July 13th. Time and place will be announced.

We will also play at the Moscow Farmer's Market from 11 am to 1 pm on September 17th. This venue is one of our favorites. Hope to see you there.

Band Meeting Tonight, 7:30 pm at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Moscow

The Hog Heaven Big Band will hold an organizational meeting today, March 21, at 7:30 PM, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Moscow. We will talk about plans for the next year, including gig opportunities, recruiting musicians, rehearsals, and music selection. All who are interested are welcome.

Palouse Dance Club Gig

Saturday, December 12th is the date. Gladish Community and Cultural Center is the place. Join us for a great dinner dance hosted by the Palouse Dance Club.

Enjoy the 4th Saturday of this month with your family and friends, and join us again on the 4th Saturday of next month, that'd be January 28, 2012, at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown to celebrate a brand new year of the Palouse's greatest big band swing.

Swingin' Spooks and Ghouls

This Thursday, October 28, 2010, the Hog Heaven Big Band is honored to perform for the Swing Devils of the Palouse Halloween dance in the ballroom of Phil and Shelley Roderick's CJ's nightclub (112 North Main, Moscow, Idaho). Festivities start at 8 with Hog Heaven cranking it up around 9. Halloween Costume dance contest included, so dress up your best dancing and swinging spooks and ghouls. Cover: $3 for Swing Devils members and $5 for non-members (see, it makes good sense to join). Monthly swing dances at the Dahmen Barn continue this weekend. Several new tunes have been rotated into the set list, including And The Angels Sing, Always, Cute, and Tuxedo Junction. Bring your dancing shoes and help us break in the new dance floor.

Moscow Farmer's Market 2010 season begins in May. The Hog Heaven Big Band will be performing at the market on August 7th from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Mark your calendar today!

Year end thoughts

I hope everyone enjoyed playing with the band as much as I did in 2009. Some of the highlights included meeting new members, learning new music, and playing for the largest swing dance crowd in our long history. The dedication you all have to the Hog Heaven Big Band is a tremendous inspiration for me. Playing with all of you is one of the highlights of my life.

Saxophone Quintet at the Palouse Mall

Here are some of the saxophones that are appearing at the Palouse Mall December 18 at 4:30 p.m. The Saxophone Quintet performs using some of Tim's collection of instruments.

His contrabass is one of the few in existence and will anchor the low end. The soprillo and sopranino take care of the high end. Baritone, tenor and alto will fill in the middle range.

Get in your rig and come dance at the barn

You don't need to hire a limo to get to tonight's dance at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown, WA. The band will be swinging from 7:30 to 9:30 pm.

Price: $8/couple; $5/single; children under 12 free.

Swing Night with the Swing Devils Dance Club

Moscow's premiere swing dance club, Swing Devils of the Palouse, is hosting the Hog Heaven Big Band on Thursday, Oct. 8th at the Moscow Social Club above CJ's. This is the best dance floor on the Palouse and the Swing Devils really know how to swing!

The dance starts at 8 pm with free east coast swing dance lessons. The Hog Heaven Big Band plays from 9 to 11 pm, followed by a DJ until midnight. The cost is $5 at the door.

Blow into Uniontown for some hot swing music

The weatherman is forecasting 15-25 mpg winds this evening so hoist your sails, put on your dancing shoes, and cruise on down to the Dahmen Barn for some hot swing music. The dance starts at 7:30 pm. Bring the kids and pass on your love of swing music.
